The level designations are general guidelines.  The following is a short description but it's not a strict rule:

Beginner (Level 1) is generally the basic steps/variations of the dance.  If you have not had any or very little dance experience, the lesson will focus on the basic steps of the dance.
Intermediate (Level 2) is for students who already know the basic steps and some variations or have taken the Beginner level.
Advanced is for students who have been dancing for years.  The class will focus more on technique and complex variations.
